Through the Years

1923: Hudson Hardware is Built

Our building at 55 East Main street was constructed in 1923 by a man named Hurbert Varner (H.V.) Hudson. It opened as H.V. Hudson & Son (later known as Hudson Hardware and Farm Supplies), a cornerstone hardware and general farm supply store serving Page County farmers and residents.

Years down the road, Herbert Hudson transitioned ownership over to D.P. Ayers, who continued operating Hudson Hardware for many more years. Eventually, it transitioned into Cave's Paint and Hardware during the 1970s, maintaining its utility as a neighborhood hardware resource.

1970s: Change of Ownership

After Cave's closed, many renovations took place to transition to space from retail over to restaurants. The last business to live in the building before being purchased by current owners, Bob and Tammy Falter, was Gulliver's Sandwich Shop.

1990s: Transition to Hospitality

Bob and Tammy Falter put years of love and work into the building before opening up a downtown Luray staple, A Moment to Remember. When they decided to close and focus on other ventures, many new businesses passed through. The building housed The Valley Cork, 55 East Main Brewhouse and Grill, and most recently Taste of Home Downtown.

With the space back in Tammy and Bob's hands, they knew that they wanted to transform it into a special destination in the Valley—a place where people can gather, celebrate, and make memories for years to come. The vision brings together Tammy’s love and experience in hospitality and welcoming guests with Bob’s lifelong passion for music.
